21-year-old Valerie “Bangs” Garcia graces the cover of Maxim Philippines Magazine’s November 2008 issue.
Valerie “Bangs” Garcia has come a long way from hosting a local variety show in her hometown in Davao. She played opposite Jake Cuenca in the series Palos earlier this year. The former Close-Up to Fame runner-up was also part of the original cast of the all-women gag show Banana Split, but she had to pull out of the project after a schedule conflict. “Sana babalik ako dun. Sabi naman nila puwede daw ako mag-guest. Pero sa first two episodes na ipapalabas, nandudoon ako,” she said.
Now that she’s been given her biggest break yet: acting opposite teleserye heavyweight Judy Ann Santos in the nurserye Humingi Ka Sa Langit. Valerie can’t believe how easy it was working with the nurserye cast and crew. “Ang bait ni Judai. Enjoy kasi kami dahil lahat ng cast at buong staff friendly. Sina Direk Andoy nakakatuwa sila. Yung role ko dun is half-sister ni Judy Ann and at the same time love interest ni Derek,” she added.

The lives of the characters portrayed by Katrina Halili, Valerie Concepcion, Jennylyn Mercado, Alessandra de Rossi and Diana Zubiri meet worlds of realistic humor and irony in Octo Arts Films’ "One Night Only," a Metro Manila Film Festival-Philippines (MMFFP) offering this Christmas season. “One Night Only" is a comedy of errors involving the wacky shenanigans of several characters who end up in the same seedy motel called Lovers' Hideaway on the same night.
Written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes, this five-in-one romantic comedy also stars Ricky Davao, Paolo Contis,Jon Avila, Joross Gamboa, Ogie Diaz, Chokoleit, and Manilyn Reynes.

When you hear the word bone marrow, the first thing that comes to mind is 'bulalo'. That's the delicacy that I really love to eat every now and then.
Little did I know that one day my own bone marrow would be extracted. It is quite painful, especially the anaesthesia part, when it is injected. The extraction itself is stressful because even if my backside was numb, I could feel the steel hitting bone.
I even have a hard time looking at these pics that Maxene took because, the screwdriver thing just looks so scary.
Dra. Ona and Dr. Sabado did this extraction (of my bone marrow and piece of bone) on Aug. 6, my second day @ Medical City.
The red strip that looks like spaghetti, is my bone, the yellow stuff is my marrow.

Freddie Roach calls Manny 'son' or sometimes just plain Manny. Manny calls Freddie 'coach' which Manny felt is more than just a coach. Manny Pacquiao considers his trainer and friend as his second dad.
Freddie Roach was a professional boxer in the late 1970s. The celebrated trainer also has Parkinson disease, the same nerve illness that inflicted Muhammad Ali. Despite Parkinson disease, Freddie Roach indirectly competes in boxing inside the ring thru the fists of Manny Pacquiao. Roach achieves his goals thru his ward Manny. Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach are inseparable, what would Manny be without Freddie Roach or vice versa.
I wish some movie producer would produce a movie centering on the relationship of Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach, that would be an interesting movie specially for Pacman fans. HBO should be enlighten for this prospect of a movie.
My brother Darwin had a photo-op with Freddie Roach in Las Vegas last March 2008 (Pacquiao vs. Marquez II), my brother told me that Freddie Roach's hand was trembling while autograph-signing my brother's boxing glove.

PATOK ANG MAKABAGONG PAGSASANAY
So far, so good. Sana ay magtuloy-tuloy ang magandang sinimulan natin.
Hanggang sa muling Kumbinasyon. God Bless Us All.

What I really like about Manny Pacquiao is his sincerity to help the poor in the Philippines, and not only that, he sees in each of his fights as a fight of the Philippines as a whole.
On his first sparring day with a Super Welterweight Rashad Halloway last Tuesday October 14, 2008, he proved that he can take a punch in stride from a Super Welterweight guy and give a punch that can be felt by the bigger guy.
In his article of today's Kumbinasyon column, he also considers the huge impact that the fight would bring to the Philippines' economy if he wins against the much bigger Oscar De la Hoya. He thinks of the Philippines for the betterment as well unlike some know-it-all politicians who thinks of themselves first and even ride on his popularity even without a glimpse of knowledge on boxing...wala sa laki yan mga repapips.

I will not let my fellow Filipinos down come fight time kaya naman puspusan po ang training ko sa gym.
God Bless Us All.

The weekend after "Iron Man" opened, people everywhere were buzzing about the secret scene after the end credits with Samuel L. Jackson in a cameo as Marvel Comics' Nick Fury. It was so successful, actually, that a subsequent scene Robert Downey Jr. filmed to go at the tail end of "The Incredible Hulk" was moved up to the last scene in the film and featured in TV commercials.
But what escaped most viewers' notice were hints in both movies signaling the forthcoming appearance of another Marvel icon: Captain America. With "Iron Man" out on DVD now, and "The Incredible Hulk" hitting shelves next Tuesday, sharp-eyed fans can catch tiny glimpses of Cap if they know where to look.
A few perceptive observers noticed during the theatrical run of "Iron Man" that in the scene where Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) walks in on Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his armor is being removed, there was something on the workbench behind him. Circular, with red and white stripes and a half-completed star in the center, it was speculated that this was Captain America's iconic shield.
In a Q&A session in Santa Monica last month, director Jon Favreau confirmed that it is indeed Cap's shield. He said a visual effects artist at Industrial Light & Magic had placed it there just as a joke. But Favreau loved the little "Easter egg" and decided it should stay.
Captain America himself made a cameo in "The Incredible Hulk," but don't feel bad if you didn't see it. While director Louis Letterier had hinted in interviews that they had shot an appearance, the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. But now it can finally be seen in the bonus features on the DVD, as first spotted by FilmSchoolRejects.com.
In the original opening scene of the movie, Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) travels to the Arctic, away from civilization, to try to end his own life and rid the world of the Hulk. There, buried in the ice, is the frozen body of Captain America. It's a little difficult to make out the figure, but again he can be identified by his shield.
The character is scheduled to get his own film, called "The First Avenger: Captain America," in May of 2011. Then he's expected to join Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and other Marvel heroes in the group "Avengers" movie that July. The speculation is that the first movie will be his origin story, set during World War II like the initial comics. Then he will be frozen and brought back in modern times to join the team, just like he did in the books. Jon Favreau has stated he'd like to direct "The Avengers," but first he's focusing on "Iron Man 2," hitting screens in May 2010.

Los Angeles, CA: As per schedule, Filipino spitfire Manny Pacquiao started his sparring sessions this afternoon at the Wildcard Gym.
Pacquiao, wearing his favorite white with red trim Nike shoes and shorts, and his custom made green colored gloves, matching groin and head protector, and a handsome brownish red T-shirt, climbed the ring at the Wildcard Gym on schedule, just before 1:30PM.
Waiting for him on the ring is super welterweight Rashad Holloway (9-1-0, 5KOs), the 5’10 fighter hired by Freddie Roach to mimic the Golden Boy and give Pacquiao a hard work out.
The sparring session was slow in the beginning with Pacquiao seemingly trying to adjust to the height and the longer reach of Holloway. Pacquiao seemed content in measuring the distance before he threw his jabs.
In a short while, Pacquiao adjusted nicely and the spirited exchange of punches begun. Pacquiao would move in, tag his opponent on the head and face and move out to avoid the counter shots coming his way. The punches that he can not avoid were blocked by his gloves. Some however, got through and Pacquiao took them in stride.
Some of those that got through appeared to be power shots and they did not seem to bother the Pacman. Although, they may not be as strong as those expected to be delivered by de la Hoya, it seem that Pacquiao has the capacity to take and absorb blows from super welterweight.
After the sparring, Halloway was quoted as saying that the Pacman “is too fast and very strong. I felt those body shots.”
As usual, only a select few people were allowed in the gym. The only noteworthy media people there were the crew from ESPN and Philboxing.
It is perhaps the presence of ESPN that kind of limited what Pacquiao showed in terms of technique and it does not take an Einstein to figure out why.
At the end of the session, members of Team Pacquiao appeared elated, particularly Buboy Fernandez. “Happy ako sa pinakita ni Boss, kahit first day pa lang (I am happy with what the boss showed today, even if it's only the first day)," he said.
Pacquiao indeed had a good first sparring day. But, that in a way. was expected.

In San Francisco, Roach pulled out a toy gun and stole a bit of the show by telling De La Hoya that he found a gun that belongs to him because “he can’t pull the trigger”, an obvious reference to Roach’s previous description of de la Hoya’s remaining skills "Oscar can't pull the trigger anymore"
The toy gun that Freddie Roach brought during the San Francisco press stop for the Dec. 6 fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao is already tucked inside a vault. For memorabilia hunters, the plastic toy gun Roach used in mocking De La Hoya over the weekend in the Bay Area, could fetch a hefty price if auctioned. The toy gun symbolizes Roach's can't-pull-the-trigger description of De La Hoya. Sorry guys, it might take a decade before it is auctioned off. The gun is in the possession of Pacquiao lawyer Franklin "Jeng" Gacal, who immediately took it after having it signed by Roach. "I will sell it after ten years," said Gacal, who joined Pacquiao in the six-city press tour that kicked off on Oct. 1 in New York. From the Big Apple, the traveling circus was brought to Chicago, Houston and San Antonio in Texas, and San Francisco and Los Angeles in California.
