MANNY PACQUIAO is the New BRUCE LEE of Today's Generation

Any die-hard fan of Bruce Lee such as me will immediately likened the speed and skills of Filipino Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao with the legendary martial artist. Bruce Lee's philosophy is about flexibility which, in his own words, 'the ability to adapt like water'.

"Empty your mind, be formless like water, if you put water into a cup it becomes the cup, put water into a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow, water can crash. Be water my friend."

Manny Pacquiao has the ability to adapt to every opponent whether big or small as seen in two of his last fights in the form of a much bigger Oscar Dela Hoya and a slightly bigger Ricky Hatton in which Pacquiao demolished both of this elite fighters making them look like amateurs. Bruce Lee on the other hand has demonstrated his real-life skills in his film 'Game of Death' with a much taller opponent in the form of Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Manny Pacquiao has proven Bruce Lee's philosophy that the smaller guy can overpower a bigger and taller opponent. In Filipino layman's cry 'wala sa laki yan pare!'.

Manny Pacquiao's physique almost have the same physique with the legendary martial artist (photos below)

Bruce Lee

The expanded wingspan (scapular muscles) of both Manny Pacquiao and Bruce Lee came from decades of dedicated training. In Filipino layman's term, those wingspan is known as 'palikpik'.

It's confirmed that Manny Pacquiao is also a fan of Bruce Lee as seen in videos inside his apartment suite in Los Angeles with a huge poster/painting of the legendary Bruce Lee hanging at his wall.

Being flexible like water not only suits all kinds of sports but is also suited in the game called LIFE ! Be water my friends.

PAY PER VIEW WARS: Let's Bait the Arrogant FLOYD MAYWEATHER, JR. to Fight MANNY PACQUIAO

PPV WARS BEGINS

The 2009-year of boxing has featured a small amount of PPV’s. Fights that would have been on PPV a few years ago have been on HBO or Showtime. However, in the fall, two of the biggest PPV’s of the year will be 63 days apart. In September, Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on Juan Manuel Marquez and in November Pacquiao fights Cotto. Could the fact that boxing fans will spend $55 on the Mayweather PPV prevent them spend another $55 on the Pacquiao PPV or vice-versa?

Also, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has essentially laid out the challenge to Pacquiao that he will sell more PPV’s than him. Constantly, Mayweather has proclaimed himself the number one draw in boxing because of his record PPV numbers. That claim will be put to the test because he will take on Marquez, who has never been much of a draw. With Mayweather going on record saying he won’t work with Top Rank, who promotes Pacquiao through at least the end of 2010, the closest thing we will see to Mayweather-Pacquiao competing against one another will be whoever gets the higher PPV numbers.

IF YOU ONLY HAD $55…

The clear choice to buy is Pacquiao-Cotto in terms of pure boxing entertainment. Although Mayweather-Marquez is a legitimate match-up, paying money to see two fighters who are at their best when on they’re back foot doesn’t seem like a smart buy compared to the November PPV. Plus, as Dan Rafeal of ESPN puts it, in investing in Pacquiao-Cotto, you won’t have to deal with the nonsense of Mayweather. And who knows, maybe if Pacquiao crushes Mayweather in PPV sales, “Money” Mayweather may finally come back to earth and agree to a 50/50 split with Pacquiao.

MANNY PACQUIAO vs. MIGUEL COTTO - TALE OF THE TAPE

P4P Ranking: #1
Age: 30
Hometown: General Santos City, Philippines

Miguel Cotto (34 wins, 1 loss)

P4P Ranking: top 10
Age: 28

Height: 5 feet 7 inches
Weigh-in Weight: 145 lb.
Likely Fight Night Weight: 156 - 159 lb.
Reach: 67 inches

article source: Examiner.Com

The fight that most boxing fans anticipated is official. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum announced on Monday that IBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight champion, and current top pound for pound fighter, Filipino Manny Pacquiao will face off against WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. The two will meet on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at an agreed 145 lb. maximum weight.
Pay-per-view sales on the fight should approach 1 million buys for the U.S. market.
Pacquiao vs. Cotto is a legitimate mega-fight, and should be one of the most anticipated clashes in recent years for several reasons.

First, the boxing community will be able to witness if Manny Pacquiao can continue to thrive and succeed in his heretofore impossible journey. Starting out at a mere 106 lb., the "Pacman" is vying for Cotto's welterweight belt. For Manny, that represents an astonishing 7th title in his 7th weight class. Among the all-time greats who have ever laced on the boxing gloves, no one in the entire history of the sport has ever attained such a feat (Oscar de la Hoya is the only other fighter to win 6 titles in 6 weight classes). Not Muhammad Ali. Not Rock Marciano. Not Roberto Duran. Not Jack Dempsey.

Secondly, Miguel Cotto represents a formidable challenge for the former flyweight Pacquiao. Cotto is a legitimate welterweight, and may weigh in as big as 160 lb. come fight night on November 14. And this is a weight range that he is most comfortable in. The Puerto Rican has previously defeated highly respected fighters in Shane Mosley, Joshua Clottey, Zab Judah, Carlos Quintana, and Ricardo Torres. Carlos Quintana is the only boxer to have defeated 6 foot 1 inch Paul Williams, who possesses an 82" reach. In short, Cotto has defeated boxing stars in his climb to the top.

The third reason why this is a mega-event? Both Pacquiao and Cotto are heroes in their respective homelands. Cotto is regarded as one of Puerto Rico's best boxers, following in the lofty standards set forth by the great Felix Trinidad, and his fan base is augmented by general boxing fans that like his brawling and attack style. Pacquiao on the other hand has elevated himself to national hero status at home, but also as an international superstar. His impossible journey, starting out as a homeless boxing aspirant, continues.

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: HARRY POTTER and the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

Photobucket

We saw the 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' yesterday. Only the opening scenes are in 3D Imax while the rest is just 2D Imax. Why didn't they made the whole film in full 3D Imax straight ? Was it costly to make it in full 3D ?

Anyways, this 6th Harry Potter movie is slowly becoming a Lord of the Rings-esque setting which also brought up 'Star Wars' in mind. For instance, in the cave scenes, I felt I was seeing Dumbledore as Gandalf/Obi-wan and Harry Potter as Frodo/Luke Skywalker in reference with the other fantasy films LOTR & Star Wars. Also, a multitude of Gollum-esque creatures came out of the dark waters and I was waiting the creatures to blurt out 'my preciousss'.

It's also the Harry Potter movie without Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudly Dursley thus lessening the light-hearted humor reinforcing the film with a gloomy, somber feel. This is the darkest and more mature Harry Potter film to date and it should be dark in relevance to the inevitable demise of a main character.

Draco Malfoy is meaner, badder and more problematic in this film and is given more screen time which plays a vital point in the story, kudos to the talented Tom Felton. Ron Weasly still looks like Alfred E. Newman of Mad Magazine in my opinion but he's funny. Hermioni Granger looks captivatingly gorgeous as ever, she gave a touching performance in this film.

The addition of Professor Slughorn makes way for the reintroduction of the Horcrux which was first introduced in 'Chamber of Secrets'. Horcrux is one of the vital focus of the story and in the upcoming Deathly Hallows.

Charming magical spells as seen in earlier Harry Potter films is missing. Cho Chang, the original student in which Harry has a crush on, is missing.

Harry's infatuation with Ron's sister Ginny Weasley seems 'forced' because it wasn't established in earlier Harry Potter films. The Quidditch scenes are visually stunning and Dumbledore's casting of a fire spell in the cave is visually exhilirating.

Upon exiting the theater, I overheard some movie-goers saying that the movie is 'bitin' (cliffhanging) and 'panget' (lackluster). Well, the way I see it, it was 'bitin' but not lackluster. Same 'bitin' feeling I got when I saw 'Empire Strikes Back' in 1980. This 'bitin' feeling is a good thing because the film isn't the main course, it's just a prelude or a preparation to the climactic battle in the next HP film Deathly Hallows (in two parts). Just like in 'Empire Strikes Back' which is also 'bitin' but its sequel 'Return of the Jedi' made the Star Wars saga a grandiose trilogy as a whole (excluding the prequels). With striking similarity, recall the ending scene in 'Star Wars: Episode V - Empire Strikes Back' and you'll see Luke and Leia with R2D2 /C3PO looking out the distance of space for an uncertain future, compare the end scene in 'Half-Blood Prince' you can see Harry, Hermoine and Ron looking out the distance of the horizon for an uncertain future.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

MANNY PACQUIAO's New Haters - The Three Stooges

The New Three Stooges - Floyd Mayweather, Jr.; Oscar Dela Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez

In the boxing scribe world, haters are part of the package. One thing
that I learned, if you're being hated on, it means that
you are at or above a level that someone else wants to be
at. If you're being hated on it means that you are

"Revenge of the Fallen": Pacquiao's haters strike back
by Dennis "dSource" Guillermo

Question:
What do Oscar De la Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have in common?

Answer:
They all hate Manny Pacquiao's guts.

Incidentally, all three of them have lost to Pacquiao. Pacquiao retired and made De la Hoya quit in his stool last year in December. Marquez lost his super featherweight belts to Pacquiao last year in March. And Floyd Mayweather Jr. lost his crown as the mythical Pound-for-Pound and best fighter in boxing to the sport’s newest darling Manny Pacquiao.

Perhaps that’s also why these three can’t stop talking about Pacquiao and keep saying derogatory statements about him like yesterday in Mayweather and Marquez’s conference call.

Synchronized crying isn’t what it’s called, but its close.

Like boxing writer Brad Cooney tells me,
In the boxing scribe world, haters are part of the package. One thing
that I learned, if you're being hated on, it means that
you are at or above a level that someone else wants to be
at. If you're being hated on it means that you are
successful at something. Success breeds hate, remember
that.

Got it Brad. And I guess same goes with boxing in general. I can’t help but shake my head with some of the things the aforementioned three have said about Pacquiao like,
"I feel Manny Pacquiao is a good fighter, he does his job to the best of his ability. Many people forget that Manny Pacquiao got beat by Erik Morales. I am still at the top of my game and I have never been beat. He hasn't done anything that I haven't done."

First of all, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was doing his best Mark Wahlberg impersonation jumping up and down at ringside during one of Pacquiao’s wins over Morales like Wahlberg did when Pacquiao knocked out Ricky Hatton last May. Pacquiao has a tendency of doing that to people… you know, make the manliest of men act like middle school girls whether it’s by making them jump and scream as if they’ve seen the Jonas Brothers every time he puts forth one of his sensational performances in the ring or when he causes them to start talking trash and act jealous of all the accolades he’s getting like mean girls plotting against the prettiest girl in school.

Pathetic.

Is this Number One vs. Numero Uno’s selling point? If it’s not for a mystery injury or the thoughts about the fight getting cancelled, it seems that nobody really talks or cares about this fight unless these three stooges say something derogatory about Pacquiao. Its almost become an obsession for these three.

Don’t get me wrong, Mayweather and Marquez are two great boxers in every sense of the word. What they aren’t however is “thrilling”. Since Mayweather volunteered the statement that Pacquiao hasn’t done anything he had already done before, it’s really more like Pacquiao does it so much more often compared to how he’d occasionally do it from time to time- that is to give his audience their money’s worth.

Mayweather and De la Hoya are masters of hype. Marquez, well like Mayweather said, is just happy to be part of the ride and get paid on top of finding allies in his “Pacquiao hate crusade”. Pacquiao is the real deal. He is a man of a few words but his actions speaks for its self and his fists does what De la Hoya and Mayweather’s mouths do on a constant basis. No, contrary to Pacquiao fans’ beliefs when they call him “Gayweather” and ridicule De la Hoya for wearing fish net stockings and Marquez’s controversial pictures with some Japanese guy floating on the internet that seem all too compromising, I’m not saying anything about a homosexual act involving mouths and pleasuring, what I mean is how Pacquiao’s fists does all the talking for him while Floyd and Oscar do it by working their lips.

In the words of legendary boxing trainer “Cus” DAmato, “boxing is about putting them a$$es in them seats”.

And in today’s game, nobody does it better than Manny Pacquiao. There are things that hurt his marketability like how he’s not the best of person to interview because of his difficulty with the English language despite vast improvements and how he typically answers questions with template responses, and the fact that he lives oceans away, Pacquiao is still boxing’s best kept secret. He converts non-boxing fans into die-hard fanatics by just throwing his fists. Like Larry Merchant says, watching Pacquiao fight is a beautiful thing.

Mayweather is not what’s wrong with boxing. Trust me, there’s so many negative things in the sport that Money May simply picked up on. But if Golden Boy Promotions aimed to make a difference in boxing when they set up shop just a few years ago, this is not the way to do it. They over-hype their fights like Mayweather vs. De la Hoya and fighters like Victor Ortiz, only to disappoint fans in the end and leave bitter tastes in their mouth. It’s also ludicrous for them to keep bashing Pacquiao especially when they have a cut on his pay and that he actually is the type of fighter they should recommend for people to follow in boxing for his pleasing fighting style and great character outside the ring.

Maybe one day Golden Boy Promotions together with all of Pacquiao’s haters can have their revenge on Pacquiao when somebody knocks him out or beats the living crap out of him. But until that day comes, all this personal vendettas and ulterior motives should be swept to the side for the benefit of what’s best for boxing. Mayweather and De la Hoya need not spend all their precious time fielding questions about Pacquiao and trying to make people believe their fight is selling. A fight with Pacquiao will mean the most money for all parties involved. Heck it might even eclipse Oscar De la Hoya’s numbers. So give Marquez his pocket change to step aside and get the deal done. Mayweather versus Pacquiao is what fans want. Stop wasting your time talking and just invest it on whatever needs to be done to give people what they want. Wake up!
