This is like Deja Vu for JMM. Juan Manuel Marquez getting decked in the 2nd Round by Pretty Boy Floyd.
Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have beaten Juan Manuel Marquez yesterday but his victory was shamefully tainted with weight issues during their weigh-in. Floyd carelessly weighed-in at 2 lbs. excess of their agreed 144 lbs catch weight. The naturally bigger Floyd dwarfed the Mexican, a natural lightweight, thus having an unfair advantage by Floyd. In fact, he wanted to pay the $600,000 penalty rather than treating the Mexican with respect. Unable to adjust to his new weight, Juan Manuel Marquez was an easy target for the faster Floyd.
Here are my thoughts why Juan Manuel Marquez lose
1. JMM lacks lateral head movement, he just doesn't have the head angle movement that would confused Floyd's targeting prowess. Manny Pacquiao has that head angle movement which would be an inconvenience for Floyd.
2. JMM doesn't have an angular surprise attack in his arsenal. In order to confuse your opponent, one should have an angular surprise attack, an attack that won't let your opponent know where it will be coming from. JMM did a monotonous surprise attack which seems predictable for Floyd. Again, Manny Pacquiao's has a numerous arsenal of angular attacks.
3. JMM has no timing. Whenever JMM manages to deliver head shots Floyd just smiled at him while JMM just looks at him, if that were Manny Pacquiao a surprise follow-up shot will be given to that stupid grimace of Floyd...it's all about timing, catching your opponent unaware. JMM lacks that.
4. JMM has no punching power. His punches seems to bounce-off Floyd's silly face. Manny Pacquiao has tremendous punching power. Period.
5. JMM hasn't adjusted to his new found weight. During the fight I could see JMM's flabs. Actually JMM has more flabs than muscles while Floyd has chiseled ones that could almost explode. Manny Pacquiao has better chiseled muscles which is similar to Bruce Lee's while Floyd has chiseled muscles like a rap musician...so who do you think is better ? a chiseled muscle like Bruce Lee or a chiseled muscle like a rap singer ? I thought so too.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. manages to uphold his self-proclaimed title as Pretty Boy Floyd. After the JMM fight, there's not even a scratch seen over his face. That's what Floyd manages to do best, by avoiding getting hit in the face. I would like to see Manny Pacquiao mess up his face in the future, I'm pretty sure he would be able to erase that 'pretty boy' off his label. 'Pity boy' would be appropriate after that.

The repetitive blows to the head of Floyd Mayweather Sr. have inevitably mashed his brain. The speech impediment is an obvious sign. It will not be surprising that in future TV interviews, there will be subtitles to help viewers understand him.
Even before the very first hit to his head, Floyd Sr, was not expected to articulate a scholarly dissertation but with his recent accusation that Manny Pacquiao is using a performance enhancing substance clearly shows that his intellectual capacity has reached nadir. There are no more neurons left to exercise any rational thought process. The space between his ears has become a vast wasteland akin to the day after a nuclear blast.
But is it really just the blows to the head? Or is it in the DNA. Even the most level- headed of the Mayweathers, Jeff, seems to give credence to the outrageous allegation.
If there is any performance enhancing substance Pacquiao is taking, it must be the world infamous balut. No need to explain, just Google it.
The Mayweathers are hitting below the belt. Boxing fans and specially the formidable Pacquiao fans worldwide, the Mayweathers can be hit where it hurts the most, the pocketbook.
Just say no to September 19.

Prior to watching 'District 9', I had a feeling that I won't be able to enjoy the movie, in fact I had already planned on taking a nap over this movie. The only reason that attracted me to this movie is that it has something to do with Peter Jackson (as producer) whom I admired for his directorial work in 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy and 'King Kong'. Surprisingly enough I was dead wrong. The film was superb in terms of action, plot and emotional impact.
Action-wise, it was a blast seeing Alien weapons debut in a way that's seen in video games like 'Doom' series, 'Unreal Tournament', 'Quake' series and 'Halo'. There's enough blood-splatterings, head explosions here that would make John Rambo quiver. The movie is rated R. Video gamers will get a thrill to see a 'Mechwarrior' like robot manned by a genetically mutated human.
Plot-wise, it's an intriguing story where aliens from outer space treated by humans as dirt reflected as slur in discriminating fashion. Aliens were stranded for 20 years with a motionless mothership hovering above in a part of Johannesberg, South Africa which the military calls it 'District 9'. Humans derogatively calls them 'Prawns' because they got a shrimp-like face.
Emotional impact-wise, the film is inventive and intelligent with documentary-style interviews incorporated with CNN news-reporting style presented as exclusive video footage resonating a similar style done by Paul Verhoeven in 'Starship Troopers' and 'Robocop'. The film is a whole new genre not seen in already establshed sci-fi films. The film has elements of a 'John Rambo', 'Aliens' and a slight touch of 'E.T.' 
'District 9' is the smashing directorial debut of Neill Blomkamp which makes him a soon-to-be icon in the league of Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
The main character is Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley), an annoyingly half-witted bureaucrat who was chosen by the MNU (Multi National Union) to get signatures from the Prawns for relocation which in turn gets splashed in the face with a black liquid slowly transforming him into a genetically unique specie. A specie, so unique, transforming the character from a carelessly dumb-witted fool to a reluctant action hero and this is where the fun begins.
Hoping that there would be a sequel, 'District 10' perhaps? This is slam-bang action movie magic at its best. 'District 9' is a fine addition to the collection of superb sci-fi films.

Four-time NBA champion Shaquille O' Neal stepped inside the boxing ring and faced 6-division world boxing champion Oscar De la Hoya in ABC's TV show "Shaq Vs" which aired on Sept. 8, 2009 at 9pm.
Entering the ring, O' Neal went by the alias "Manny Shaquiao" and was accompanied by the trainer of the real Manny Pacquiao, Freddie Roach. De la Hoya on the other hand had his business partner and former light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins.
We saw 'UNDER THE SEA 3D' at the Imax theater in SM Mall of Asia yesterday, Sunday Sept. 6, 2009. A breathtaking array of sea creatures found in the Coral Triangle (Indonesian area) and the Great Barrier Reef (Australia). What's even more mesmerizing is the true-to-life visual wonder of an Imax 3D.
'UNDER THE SEA 3D' narrated by comedian/actor Jim Carrey who never loses his sense of humor, subtly found in some scenes, in this serious film. It's also an educational film which chronicles the dying of the coral reefs due to the increased in CO2 of global warming. The combination of colorful mosaic of sea creatures and corals and the destruction of their living habitats will give you an awareness that will strike you deep.
The theme song at the end is an upbeat and wonderful version of the Beatles' OCTOPUS'S GARDEN (Composed by Ringo Starr) sang by a Doris Day-like voice. Truly magical but only an hour long film.
Price at the Imax theater is P250 per person. Bring your whole family, you won't regret it and your family will thank you for it.

'The Echo' movie standup as seen in the movie hallway of the SM Mall of Asia
Yam Laranas' THE ECHO, a remake of 'Sigaw', will finally be released in Philippine movie theaters on Sept. 23, 2009. But the film won't be shown in U.S. theaters but will be released directly to DVD and Blu-Ray on November 10, 2009.
It's quite disheartening that it won't be seen in U.S. theaters. I was expecting the film to make it big in the U.S. box office similar to the hit remake 'The Ring'.

When Yam finished the film’s post-production, the US theatrical release seemed imminent. But the wait turned into months. Fans and readers of Yam’s blog began asking: “When?” In the meantime, “The Echo” was shown to potential distributors at the Cannes Film Market in May last year. In July, also last year, the film was screened at Fantasia, the Montreal, Canada fantasy and genre film festival. Last May, “The Echo” got its first international theatrical release in South Korea.

Amazon.com is now offering a pre-order price guarantee of $24.99 for each copy of “The Echo” on DVD or Blu-ray. The package art shows a girl with menacing looking eyes behind a door engulfed in flames. It virtually screams that this is a horror movie. We would have preferred the teaser poster that Yam posted on his blog, the one showing Jesse Bradford listening into a wall with a girl ominously appearing by a door in the background. It captures the quietly eerie and therefore more suspenseful mood that Yam was probably aiming for in “The Echo” (and which he effectively did in “Sigaw”).
We’re happy that “The Echo” will get a theatrical release in the Philippines. Even with the movie’s release on disc in November, we think many Filipinos would still want to experience “The Echo” on the big screen. In an e-mail interview, Yam pointed out: “The experience of seeing it on the big screen literally amplifies the scares. Although the mood of the film can be appreciated in any screen size, nothing beats the impact of the film inside a dark theater.”
As for what’s in store for moviegoers, especially those who saw and loved “Sigaw,” Yam said: “I think they will enjoy this new version. It is much scarier than the original. But fans of the original will also see that the original story line is intact. The mood and paranoia though is heightened in ‘The Echo.’”
On Iza, the filmmaker said: “I’ve always believed that Iza’s talent is world class. ‘The Echo’ is a testimony to that. She played her role with utmost commitment and sincerity. We are all proud of her.”
Yam explained about “The Echo” not getting a theatrical distribution in America: “The market has changed for all independently produced films. It all started in Cannes and the American Film Market and all the way to Sundance and Tribeca. Nobody was buying. We are among the casualties. There are also legal issues that our investor and distributor are trying to sort out. Yes, I feel bad about it but I need to see the realities of Hollywood. This is not a unique case and there are worse stories out there.”
Screenings abroad
On the movie’s distribution in other territories, he said: “As far as I know, there have been screenings in Russia, Bulgaria and Poland. The film will most likely be shown simultaneously in the Philippines and Southeast Asia since the prints come from Thailand. We are also set to be released theatrically soon in several countries in Europe.”

It's the kind of merger that would get DC Comics jealous and I am just happy about it. Anything Disney and anything Marvel are some of my favorite icons. Imagine seeing Wolverine, Spider-man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man inside Disneyland theme parks. I am sure there would be a conflict of interests between theme parks of Disney and Universal Studios because some Marvel characters can be seen inside Universal Studios theme parks.
Some insiders say that Warner Bros. company who owns the DC character rights haven't done anything to push its DC characters to another level. I'd rather see Spider-man mingling with Mickey Mouse than Superman with Donald Duck. With the merger of Disney and Marvel expect wonders and amazing attractions to be unveiled in the future.

WASHINGTON – The Walt Disney Co. added "Spider-Man," "Iron Man" and the "X-Men" to its vast cast of characters on Monday with a surprise agreement to buy Marvel Entertainment Inc. for some $4 billion.
The deal, Disney's biggest since its acquisition of animation house Pixar three years ago, will combine the comic book giant and its huge stable of action heroes with the entertainment empire of Mickey Mouse.
"Adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation," Disney president and chief executive Robert Iger said. "We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney."
Disney and Marvel, in a joint statement, said that Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own.
It said that based on the closing price of Disney stock on Friday, the transaction value is $50 per Marvel share or approximately $4 billion.
Shares of Marvel soared 25.36 percent in New York and were trading at $48.45 near the close of trading. Disney shares were trading 2.61 percent lower at $26.14.
The deal, which caught analysts and the market by surprise, was announced shortly before the opening bell on Wall Street.
Besides "Spider-Man," "Iron Man" and the "X-Men," Marvel's cast of over 5,000 characters includes "Captain America," the "Fantastic Four" and "Thor."
Marvel chief executive Ike Perlmutter said Disney is "the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.
"This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world," he said.
Disney and Marvel said Perlmutter would continue to oversee the Marvel properties, which include Marvel Studios, Marvel Animation and Marvel Comics.
Perlmutter will "work directly with Disney’s global lines of business to build and further integrate Marvel’s properties," their joint statement said.
Disney and Marvel said the boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction but it still needs the green light from US anti-trust authorities and Marvel shareholders.
Iger said the companies hope to conclude the deal by the end of the year.
He compared the purchase of Marvel to Disney's 2006 acquisition of Pixar Animation for 7.4 billion dollars, saying it presents "similar opportunities."
Pixar is the San Francisco-area studio behind such hits such as "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life," "Finding Nemo," "Ratatouille," "WALL-E" and "Up."
The agreement drew a thumbs-up from most analysts.
"Strategically, we view Marvel as a good fit for Disney," said Hale Holden of Barclays Capital. "We expect Disney to drive synergies across the Marvel characters at its parks and cable networks."
Standard and Poor's announced however that it was putting Disney's long-term 'A' corporate credit rating and short-term 'A-1' rating on credit watch with negative implications.
"In our view, Disney may need to issue debt to supplement its cash for this transaction," the ratings company said.
Marvel is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1939 as comic book publisher Timely Comics.
Besides comics, Marvel characters also feature in movies, animated features, videogames and toys such as action figures.
