 Funny they will charge P 200 for the TINTED cubicle for PRIVACY ( have a quickie perhaps ? LOL) on MOA's newly open giant ferris wheel called MOA EYE. P 100 for the cubicle without tints ! LOL. MOA EYE grand opening today at 4pm Dec. 16, 2011. Snapshot taken by me (DCRJ). Shown in photo below a tinted and the non-tinted cubicle !

LIGHTS PARADE at SM MALL OF ASIA - Dec. 3, 2011

I was at the SM Mall of Asia Dec. 3, 2011 and we caught the Lights Parade parade at 7pm. It reminded me of the electrical parade I saw in the U.S. particularly the one at California Disney Adventure theme park.

This Lights Parade at SM Mall of Asia adds additional flair or 'pogi points' to the mall self-regarded as 'no other mall comes close'. Also, the upcoming ferris wheel called MOA Eye at the San Miguel By The Bay area compliments it even more.

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: YAM LARANAS' THE ROAD (2011)

I saw THE ROAD (2011) directed by Yam Laranas. This is the best FILIPINO film I saw this year and it's a remarkable achievement by Yam Laranas after his lame 'Patient X' film. This horror story spans 2 decades split in 3 segments, Part I is 2008, part II is 1998 and part III is 1988. Each segment has a different story which interconnects in the climax. A supernatural mix blended with police investigative work. The anticlimax is one memorable sequence. The director's use of lights and shadows gave an atmospheric sense of creepiness. The editing and the cinematography are outstanding. Carmina Villaroel is the standout in the cast, she qualms up every scene as the domineering mother. Barbie Forteza and Rhian Ramos played their part well, Alden Ricards played the memorable psycho killer in a Norman Bates kind of portrayal giving one of the finest performances. Highly recommended film, be warned that this is rated R-13, meaning those below 13 are not allowed inside, that's why I was left to see the film alone while my family went to see 'Won't Last A Day Without You'. Don't fail to watch this fine Filipino flick, in theaters ! not the pirated DVD please. My ratings: 5 out of 5 Biscuits ! Yam Laranas is back on track here, a good compilation of work including 'Sigaw' and 'The Echo' just forget about 'Patient X' ...LOL !!

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: THE ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN : SECRET OF THE UNICORN (2011)

We saw THE ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN : SECRET OF THE UNICORN (2011) at Cinema 4, 3D Digital Theater at SM Mall of Asia, Nov. 30, 2011 Thursday. An old-fashioned adventure flick with plenty of Steven Spielberg's signature stamped all over. Also a dazzling motion capture flick uncannily combined with top-of-the-line CG animation. The film reminded me of the Indiana Jones movies with elements of Pirates of the Caribbean. Top-notch motion-capture performance by Andy Serkis, the actor behind such memorable characters like Gollum (Lord of the Rings), King Kong by Peter Jackson and Caesar (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Great fun in this thrill ride of an adventure. My ratings: 5 out of 5 Biscuits !

We saw FRIGHT NIGHT (2011) downloaded from PSPerspective.Net. A remake of the 1985 Roddy McDowald film. Colin Farrell's striking performance oozing with macho flair as the vampire. The 1985 film is a cult classic but the modernized version is clearly superior than the original in terms of visual effects, humor, gore, grittiness and freakiness. Welcome to Fright Night for real ! My ratings: 4.5 out of 5 Biscuits !

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: BUNRAKU (2011)

BUNRAKU (2011). I saw the movie via glorious DVD from the pirates of Quiapo. A cowboy (Josh Harnett) in a world without guns and a samuraii warrior (Gackt) without a sword teamed-up to fight the evil lord of all criminals (Ron 'Hellboy' Perlman). A visual treat and full of eye-candies but the acting, story and the pacing halts to a bore. A film tries hard to be an overblown comic book based with the likes of a 'Sin City' and 'Max Payne' or any other film noirs yet it suffered inconsistencies in all aspects. blah blah blah and blahdibliblah ! Amusing to see Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore together again, brought memories of their film 'Indecent Proposal'. My ratings: 2 out of 5 Biscuits !

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: TRESPASS (2011)

TRESPASS (2011). Stars Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman...that's Nicholas and Nicole hehe. Ok, straight to the point, this is an awful film and a laughable one in the midst of idiocy. Irrational script and badly directed by Joel Schumacher, you know him, the director of the awful Batman and Robin, the Batman with the nipples, right? the Batman film that almost killed the franchise. Trespass seem half-baked, it's a shame that Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman, two finest actors agreed to do this film. The film requires further refinement and must infuse some intelligence rationally thus stimulating its audience rather than making 'em dumb and numb... LOL. My ratings: 1 out of 5 Biscuits !

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: TRUST (2011)

TRUST (2011). Solid acting with an amazing acting performance by newcomer Liana Liberato with Clive Owen's best performance so far. Annie, a 14 year old girl (Liberato) is seduced by a 41 year old internet predator. She knows only as 'Charlie', it tears apart her family, while her father (Clive Owen) becomes obsessed with revenge. An important issue in this internet age. The film shows how a pervert works, seduces and how the victim and her family goes through those trying times. The ending didn't work well much but suggest forewarn that there are smart perverts lurking around online no matter how strong those parental-protections are. My ratings: 4 out of 5 Biscuits !

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (2008)

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (2008). A Buddy comedy about two friends (Seth Rogen 'The Green Hornet' and James Franco 'Harry Osborne of Spider-man') who loves to smoke weeds and got involved with the meanest thugs of drug dealers. Male bonding blended with blood and gore doesn't mixed well with comedy. Sometimes the absurdity of the film is hilarious if the dialogue is written by funny man Seth Rogen. No wonder Seth Rogen got to do The Green Hornet in a ridiculous fashion. It's just now that I saw this 2008 film via DVD from my favorite muslim vendor who sells pirated DVDs encased in this handsome metallic casing. My ratings: 3 out of 5 Biscuits !

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011)

We saw CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011) in 3D at SM Mall of Asia July 27, 2011. The movie stayed true to the comic book but Steve Rogers characterizations lack some emotional impact and lacks some sense into the character development. From 'Skinny Steve' weakling to super human strength, the transition and adaptation to his new found strength wasn't clearly portrayed. Was it instinct that he suddenly knows how to dive and swim as a super human without gaining knowledge on the art of swimming when he was still a weakling? Chris Evans or perhaps the lame script failed to portray his 'skinny steve' with asthmatic symptoms nor failed to show some sickness throughout his scenes as a weakling. What's more absurd is how 'muscular steve' failed to show his adaptability or how his new body would adapt to change, in short he unbelievably was at ease immediately with his new found strength. It was just too perfect in transition avoiding the conflicts that would make the story more realistic and mature. Yet still, it's fun to see a period film, the inclusion of the real life first edition comic book of Captain America in the film, the original costume in tights in the movie as seen in earlier comic books, the appearance of the Human Torch (in red outfit) as seen in earlier comic books (incidentally Chirs Evan also was the Human Torch in another movie) and early vision of the expo with Howard Stark, daddy of Tony. Overall, the movie has a cartoon feel to it specially the cartoony head of the Red Skull. The movie could have been much mature that targets at the same time the adults or the daddies and the mommies. My ratings: 2 out of 5 Biscuits ! P.S. - don't fail to watch the preview of THE AVENGERS after the end credits. The Avengers featured Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye  Nick Fury and those not in the preview include Black Widow and the Hulk

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: AMIGO (2011) starring Joel Torre, Chris Cooper

We saw AMIGO (2011) at Cinema 5 of SM Mall of Asia on July 9, 2011. Obviously a low budget film produced by Star Cinema and Cinema8 (local film outfit) which stars Joel Torre with a casts of Hollywood actors Oscar Awardee Chris Cooper, DJ Qualls (CSI Crime Scene Investigation TV series), Garret Dillahunt (also of CSI Crime Scene Investigation TV series) and Yul Vasquez (War of the Worlds, American Gangster, The A-Team). Set in 1900 Luzon island during the Philippine-American War (1898-1902). A group of American soldiers sent to subdue a remote village with alliance to the rebel guerillas. Rafael (Joel Torre), the Cabeza del Barrio of the village, finds himself in the middle of the conflict as he plays the Amigo or friend to the American troops in order to protect the people of his village but is torn between compliance with the Americans and be the rebel sympathizer considering that his son and brother are rebels. Rafael finally wins the trust of US Lieutenant Compton (Garret Dillahunt) and the two build an appreciation and respect to each other. A village fiesta is permitted by Compton. Col. Hardacre (Chris Cooper), pissed from rebel attacks on another area, learned of Compton's fiesta permission and Compton's troop's laxity the following day he ordered stricter measures and tortures Rafael to confess whereabouts of the rebels. The scope of the movie is limited with confined spaces with the cast and extras numbering only 2 dozen I think making the film claustrophobic in feel. The art design of the period are limited to antiques without production values. The actings are splendid but the camera pannings and the script could have been more. Ending is unsatisfying and gave me a hanging feeling. John Sayles, the writer and the director, done his research wisely but fails to ignite some emotional impact particulary in the action scenes. I am disappointed with the film due to its limited resources and Academy Award winner Chris Cooper could have shine as the protagonist but the poor production values made his scenes flat and some laughable. I could have been proud of this film because of its Philippine historical theme but I can't ! Sorry. My ratings 2 out of 5 Biscuits ! P.S. - there were only about 11 of us inside the theater...all of the cinema goers were inside the fully-packed but lame Transformers 3 flick.

Filipino facebook user Jerzon Senador thought it amusing to posts photos of his puppy hanging on a clothesline to dry. He got the attention he needed when Facebook expressed shock and anger which also got the irk of PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society). Jerzon now says sorry and PAWS will continue to sue the guy.
