2 FILIPINOS HAILEE STIENFELD (True Grit) & MATTHEW LIBATIQUE (Black Swan) Nominated in 83rd OSCARS

Hailee Stienfeld played Mattie Ross in the 2010 remake of TRUE GRIT, and for that performance she was honored with a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in the upcoming 83rd Oscar Awards to be held on Feb. 27, 2011. She is a half-blooded Filipino, her mother is Filipina.

Matthew Libatique, a Fil-Am and a full blooded Filipino is nominated for Best Cinematography for the Natalie Portman movie BLACK SWAN. Matthew Libatique is the man behind the cinematography of Iron Man I and II.

DANICA FLORES MAGPANTAY - 1st Filipina to win 2011 FORD SUPER MODEL WORLD - Jan. 24, 2011

Danica Flores Magpantay, 17, a University of Philippines Fine Arts student, has emerged as the winner of the Ford Supermodel of the World 2011 title on Saturday in New York, thus bagging a $250,000 modeling contract with Ford Models.

Models from over 50 countries joined the international modeling contest. Runners-up are contestants from Lithuania and Poland, who won modeling contracts of $150,000 and $100,000. The other 2 Top 5 finalists were Brazil and Estonia

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: SOMEWHERE (2010)

We saw SOMEWHERE (2010) on a weekend. Francis Ford Coppola's daughter Sofia has her own style in directing movies. Her movies are distinctive and she is a league of her own even with her father's tutelage. She uses long shots which conveys everything. She also uses the actor's facial expressions to convey the right thoughts in scenes without uttering words. She also avoids movie music enhancements because the actor's actions already conveys the right emotion under her direction. SOMEWHERE is a silly title but with Sofia Coppola's name behind it underscores a masterpiece. SOMEWHERE is about a hard-living Hollywood actor who re-examines his life after his 11 year old daughter surprises him with a visit. In many ways, the movie 'Lost in Translation' style can be clearly felt in this movie. Stephen Dorff plays Hollywood actor Johnny Marco with Elle Fanning (younger sister of Dakota Faning!) as the daughter Cleo. The movie is sad, quiet, simple, stoic but interestingly a gem. I also love the pole dancing scenes ...LOL. My ratings: 4.5 out of 5 Biscuits !
