MARIAN RIVERA & DINGDONG DANTES in an ENDLESS LOVE Dance on GMA at 60 - June 27, 2010

Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes aka DongYan weaves its magic in an 'Endless Love' Dance on GMA-7's 60th Anniversary Special 'GMA at 60' which aired June 27, 2010.

They indeed got magical chemistry together and it's always a joy to see them both on TV and in the movies.

Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes currently in another TV series on GMA-7 called 'Endless Love' , a Korean telenovela remake daily Mondays to Fridays at 9pm. The show started on June 28, 2010.

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: Knight and Day (2010), You To Me Are Everything (2010) and Wapakman (2009)

We saw KNIGHT AND DAY (2010) in a cinema at the SM Mall of Asia, June 25, 2010. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz truly has wonderful chemistry together on film but somehow lacks a certain spark to perfect it which I blame it on the script. The film could have been better than the Michael Douglas and Katherine Turner film 'Romancing The Stone' which I found similarities to this 1984 film. Although Knight and Day is highly entertaining with lots of action that ignites the screen but the obvious CGI effects warrants, in my case, unsuspension of disbelief. The movie could have been so much more. My ratings: 3 out of 5 Biscuits !

I just saw YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING (2010). Another boy-meets-girl, boy-hates-girl then boy-falls-in-love-with-girl labeled with a catchy tune for a title, a proven formulaic strategy by producers coupled with the country's top stars. Simple and sweet story about a girl, Iska (Marian Rivera), who became an instant rich girl from Benguet province and a rich guy, Rafael (Dingdong Dantes) whose luck became a mishap thus losing everything. Rafael became Iska's business adviser and uses her to gain back everything he loses only to find out that she'll change him more than he expected. Production values isn't epic and expensive, the film is suitable for a B-movie but the chemistry between Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes is magical, 100 % priceless. My ratings 4.5 out of 5 Biscuits !

I just saw WAPAKMAN (2009). I was expecting this Topel Lee's movie to be at par with Hollywood standards plus the fact it's a Manny Pacquiao movie, Manny Pacquiao is my boxing idol. But I was ghastly disappointed. Not only Manny Pacquiao's spandex suit looks silly the whole movie is half-baked or half-cooked. The editing is terrible making the film in disarray, boring and uninteresting. The CGI effects are too cartoony and the gags are lame. No wonder this film got snubbed by critics and at the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival. My ratings: 0.5 out of 5 Biscuits !

Thank you Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the hard work you have given to us for the past 9 years. Even though you have been criticised, judged, scorned and resented by some, you still have proven your worth as one of the better president the Philippines has ever had. Mabuhay po kayo !

PAGCOR Chief MR. EFRAIM GENUINO Retires, ENTERTAINMENT CITY Left Hanging in the Air - June 16, 2010

Mr. Efraim Genuino will always be credited for the Bagong Nayong Pilipino E-City project which will soon generate 250,000 jobs for the Filipinos. He envisioned a city that would serve as catalyst for economic growth in the Philippines. Thank you Mr. Genuino. I just hope President-Elect Noynoy Aquino will think with his brain this time how important Mr. Genuino is to the foreign investors of their soon-to-rise Entertainment City.

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS : THE KARATE KID (2010)

We saw THE KARATE KID (2010) June 12, 2010. The story is exactly the way it was told in the 1984 Karate Kid version that starred Ralph Macchio & the late Pat Morita !

The 2010 version is enhanced and enriched with the sights and sounds of BEIJING, CHINA that gives this new version an edge over the original plus it's a Jackie Chan movie too.

BUT the bonding of friendship between 21 year old Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Miyagi (Pat Morita) from Karate Kid 1984 was more convincing (and more logical) than the somewhat forced bonding between 12 year old Dre Parker (Smith) and Mr. Han (Chan).

It makes me think why remake a well-loved film from 1984 when it isn't broken in the first place, oh I get it...it's all about making money from a known franchise and perhaps Jaden Smith's vehicle towards fame and fortune !

The 2010 version would be greater IF the 1984 version didn't exist ! yet still, the 2010 version has all the ingredients to be a well-loved classic. BTW, this is Jackie Chan's dramatic moment even worthy for an Oscar nomination, yes no kidding.

My ratings : 4.5 out of 5 Biscuits ! (it would have been a 5 out of 5 if it's wasn't a remake :D )

DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS (June 1 to 10, 2010)

I just finished watching HBO's THE PACIFIC (2010) TV Mini-Series in 10-Parts in 11 DVDs. It tells the story of WWII in certain parts of the Pacific with true-to-life soldiers EUGENE SLEDGE (played by Joseph Mazello, the little kid from 'Jurassic Park'), ROBERT LECKIE and 'MANILA JOHN' BASILONE. Joseph Mazello's moving performance captured the emotions of troubled soldiers coming home from war. The series is a tribute to Gunnery Sargeant John Basilone whose real-life exploits would put Fernando Poe, Jr.'s unrealistic war scenes in the movies to shame. I am glad I have watched this. My only wish is that they should have included the Philippines in the setting. The DVD version is uncut and R-Rated unlike the tamed HBO shown on cable TV last March 2010. My ratings : 5 out of 5 Biscuits ! One of the best mini-series I have seen.

I just finished watching HOT TUB TIME MACHINE (2010). What happens when you sang Black Eyed Peas' Let's Get It Started in 1986 ? Ans: you'll be rich and famous. Four best buddies have been living boring lives in 2010 wound up back in time in the year 1986 via a hot tub. Silly script mixing silly gags with the space-time continuum saved by a likable casts including John Cusack. It's Back To The Future meets Groundhog Day. This movie gets connected with THE Time Travel movie with the appearance of Crispin Glover, the dorky father from Back To The Future ! My ratings: 4 out of 5 biscuits

I just finished watching REMEMBER ME (2010) starring Twilight's Robert Pattinson and Kitchie Nadal look-alike Emilie De Ravin. Strong performance by Pattinson which captured the essence of a James Dean-like execution with the slouched posture and mannerisms. Chris Cooper's authoritative/violent role gave me flashbacks of his other role with same trait from another movie 'American Beauty'. This is Robert Pattinson's method acting moment. My rating 4.5 out of 5 biscuits !

Meet the EURASIA - Philippines Hottest Girl Group

I first heard of Eurasia when I was at the Resorts World Manila. Now they sang the theme song of the movie Working Girls and are currently performing live on stage in TV shows such as Party Pilipinas.

Eurasia is Viva's newest girl group (Half Asian, Half European ladies).

A pretty mix of East and West is what face value has for Eurasia, the new girl group in town whose members are oozing with stunning beauty, sex appeal and feminine class rolled into one. The five ladies are mostly half Asian-half European, creating the amazing result of east meeting west as formed from picking the best.

With their fresh looks and professional stage act, Eurasia is bound to conquer fans from all walks of life with a self-titled debut album ready for release. The album from Viva Records embraces pop, R&B and dance music — basically genres musically binding them together.
Unlike previous girl groups who were manufactured overnight, Eurasia is experienced and intact as performers, doing thrice-a-week gig (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays) at the high-end Resorts World Manila. Their corporate shows and event guestings even extend to neighboring countries like Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and China’s Hong Kong.

Eurasia has likewise a built-in edge the fact that all members are physically admirable and have their own claims-to-fame outside group affiliation. For one, all of them were busy models prior to joining the act.

Fil-Japanese Kristine Nieto placed first-runner up in the highly touted "Be Bench" search. Fil-German Lana Roi won a pageant spearheaded by Century Tuna just last year, while pure Pinay Gail Nicolas took the "2007 Mossimo Bikini Summit Grand Champion." Embodying the brave modern Filipina, she was also a "Fear Factor" finalist.

Completing the sing and dance group are Fil-Italian Sara Polverino and Fil-British Kelly Ann Gamboa. To assure the quintet’s ripeness as a collective force, The Company’s Annie Quintos was tapped as vocal coach while dance gurus Geleen Eugenio and Ranni Santos of Whiplash are helping the girls craft their steps.

Eurasia’s carrier single is "Ikaw Ay Perfect," its title suggesting tonal flattery and the perfect 10 look the group boasts. A couple of OPM revivals that includes the theme song of "Working Girls" movie remake surely makes their CD a lot more attractive.

Here's a video I recorded courtesy of 24 Oras which aired June 3, 2010.

DCRJ at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE (May 24 & 25, 2010)

I spent a week in sunny Singapore from May 22 to 28, 2010. The heat and humidity of Singapore never dampened my spirit as I was excited to see the Universal Studios version in Singapore. My first taste of Universal Studios was in Los Angeles circa Nov. 2003. Although there were few movie themes included in the Singapore version but it was still a blast to visit.
Yet still, I was disappointed that Jurassic Park the Ride which is supposed to be the main attraction of the park was not even in operation for two days and that's the whole time when I was there !.

The Madagascar Crate Adventure was still in construction while the Battlestar Galactica, the rollercoaster ride was under repairs! talk about wrong timing !

Waterworld show did compensated for our valuable time even with a few glitches in the sound system during the first part of the show.

The Revenge of the Mummy ride did offered thrills although the Ancient Egypt area was too damn hot that made me think I was in the real Egypt.

Steven Spielberg's Lights Camera Action special effects was the highlight of my visit, we experienced real movie magic special effects in real-time.

The character mascots were real treats for me. Souvenir items such as shirts and watches were nice and good for taking home for friends and relatives.

Clearly, USS still needs improvement, I just wish that the air cooling system could be more cooler. It was amusing to see guests drenching wet with their own sweat. Probably the best time to visit the park is on the months of November to February which are the cooler months or the rainy season. Well, I can live with the rains than the heat.

Will I be coming back ? you bet I will. The Transformers attraction is still in construction and that's just one reason why I won't hesitate into coming back to USS in the near future.
