DCRJ's MOVIE REVIEWS: 'BATTLE FOR TERRA' in 3D at Digital Cinemas

Photobucket

We saw 'BATTLE FOR TERRA' today at the SM Mall of Asia Cinema 4 with 3D glasses. Another exciting 3D experience made possible in selected digital cinemas.

The CG-animated science fiction movie is about planet invasion, this time the planet intruders are the human species. Terrians, a harmonious and gentle inhabitants of the peaceful planet called Terra. They are legless, lightweight species that floats. Their planet Terra are being invaded by the last survivors of the human specie from the death star called planet Earth.

The problem for humans, Terra's atmosphere isn't suitable for humans to breathe. The solution for humans, an oxygen atmospheric converter must be drilled into Terra to make it an oxygen laden environment but all wonderful inhabitants of Terra won't survive by the procedure. This sets the stage for an all-out war between Terrians and Humans. In the process, an unexpected friendship between a young feminine Terrian named Mala and a male human pilot named Lt. James Stanton ensued and both specie will try to convince their respective leaders that war is not the answer.

The amazing 3D effects is top-notch specially the snow flakes but the characters were created in a crude manner making it too cartoony for my taste. Musical soundtrack lacks merit, I was expecting a John William-ish kind of Star Wars orchestral grandeur but the music felt like it's been done for cartoon network kiddie shows. The colors and shadings of the characters and object are bland, it lacks color saturation. In fairness, the story is unique because of the reverse roles typically seen in all sci-fi alien invasion genre. Also, it is heart-warming which suggest that no matter what race specie you are in, all are basically good and deserve to enjoy life.

“Battle For Terra” is voiced by an all-star cast including Evan Rachel Wood, Luke Wilson, Brian Cox, David Cross, Justin Long, Amanda Peet, Dennis Quaid, Chris Evans, James Garner, Danny Glover, Ron Perlman, and Danny Trejo.

'Battle For Terra', another movie in 3D that positively puts us back in theaters instead of watching those cheap bootleg copies in DVD form from Quiapo !

My Ratings : 3 out of 5 Biscuits !

MANNY PACQUIAO's 'Kumbinasyon' Column - Matthew 28:20 - Oct. 25, 2009

"Kumbinasyon"

By Manny Pacquiao

MATEO 28:20

25 Oct 2009

MANILA — Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to all of my fans, friends and all those who read this column, wherever you may be. I hope all of you are fine, healthy and happy. If you are going to ask me how I am, I think I am quite ready to fight next week although there are still three more weeks and a lot of work to do before I step into the ring.

Likewise, I could even hardly speak English back then.

God Bless Us All.

The Best MANNY PACQUIAO Video Ever !

Here's a fan (Oliver Sha) made video (Hero1 Productions) featuring the Manny Pacquiao fights condensed into a highly energized video sequences of stunning knock outs by the Pacman accompanied with an upbeat music accurately synchronized with the correct scenes.

The editing is wonderfully done and seem like it was done by a professional editor. Some videos I have seen was done just for the sake of compiling all of Manny's greatest fights but this Oliver Sha-made video has something extraordinary in it, it has some compelling tempo and momentary pause bringing out some emotion within.

Fight sequences include Manny Pacquiao's younger years up to the Oscar Dela Hoya fight.

DCRJ Visits RESORTS WORLD MANILA at NEWPORT CITY in Lunchbreak Oct. 20, 2009

Placed a signage at the front door of my clinic that I will be back at 2pm and finally visited the Resorts World Manila at lunchtime today. It's only a 20 minute drive from my workplace (clinic).

Resorts World Manila in Newport City just across the NAIA Terminal 3 had its soft opening two months ago. This integrated tourism resort will be home to a series of hotels, condominium buildings, a grand mall and other recreational facilities.

We had a sumptious lunch via buffet at Mercado's inside the resort. Lunch buffet is P 188++ (plus service charge) which is only up to Oct. 31, 2009.

What's truly amazing, while walking in the middle of the slot machines, is that you get a sense you are in a place inside a casino in Las Vegas or Atlantic city. Picture taking is prohibited inside the casinos, the Indiana Jones theme or the Star Wars theme slot machines could have been a great snapshot. I saw a Michael Jackso look-alike rehearsing a Man in the Mirror routine, also caught a glimpse of an Elvis Presley look-alike...it seems that the place is becoming a Las Vegas style of entertaiment.

The casino part at the goundfloor of the Maxims hotel is already completely furnished. The upcoming grand mall, theaters and other recreational facilities is still under construction.

This is all I could show you, no picture taking allowed inside

You need a membership card like this so you could play those slot machines. It is given for free inside the resort after filling up the apllication form or you could apply via online at www.rwmanila.com

Hotel accomodations include the Marriot Hotel in the backdrop, the luxurious Maxims hotel which is still under finishing construction and a budget hotel which is still under construction.

This is just the lobby of the place. The place will be one of the finest tourist destination in the Philippines.

Of the total investments, up to $600 million is expected to go to the development of a 25-hectare property in Villamor Airbase into an integrated tourism resort called Resorts World Manila, which will be home to a series of hotels with a total 1,574 rooms and medium-rise residential condominium buildings, a grand mall, gaming and various retail, leisure, gaming and entertainment facilities. Once completed, the entire project dubbed Newport City will generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2012.

Newport City is a joint venture between AGI unit Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. and Star Cruises Ltd., the world’s third largest cruise line operator and part of Malaysia’s Genting Berhad Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Southeast Asia.

“Newport City will be positioned as the gateway to Philippine tourism owing to its proximity to the NAIA 3 International Terminal,” said Sian.

The integrated tourism estate named Resorts World Manila (RWM) will be part of the Resorts World chain of integrated tourism development across Southeast Asia , namely Resorts World Genting (Malaysia) and Resorts World Sentosa (Singapore). It will have three hotels – the recently opened five-star Marriott Hotel and two other hotels under construction – the six-star Maxims Hotel slated to open in the first quarter of 2010 and the budget class Remington Hotel which is expected to open by the first quarter of 2011.

In addition, there will be a 1,000-seat Newport Performing Arts Theater, four high-end cinemas, luxury shopping arcade and a four-storey retail mall, gaming areas, restaurants, spas, dance clubs and other recreational facilities.

In the next months, Travellers also plans to embark on another major tourism estate development within the 90-hectare Entertainment City situated in the Manila Bay reclamation area.

Travellers will develop Bayshore City on approximately 40 hectares of Entertainment City Manila. Bayshore City is envisioned as a themed leisure and entertainment destination that will include an iconic structure to symbolize the country’s culture and heritage, residential developments, several hotels with an aggregate room count of about 3,400 as well as leisure, entertainment and gaming facilities.

The project is expected to create over 100,000 jobs both in direct and indirect employment.

EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF 4-D WITH X-RIDER

Long before the buzzword “quality time” came into popular usage, parents go to markets or department stores to acquire whatever is or are needed by their households. Kids are usually left behind with one of the parent or for more affluent families, with their “yayas”.

As time moved on, both parents have to work or go to the office to make ends meet or to fulfill their vocations or careers. Again, the children were excluded in their daily grinds.

Time came when parents and children drifted away from each other because of their disparate schedules and interests. A compromise solution came via “quality time”. Parents, if and when possible, bring their kids to their activities including their constant trips to markets. However, the “fostering of stronger binds” still cannot prosper. What interests the parent does not amuse the kids and vice versa.

Markets too, evolved through time. In vogue are one-stop shops, or stores offering different wares and goods are housed under one big roof, etc. eventually developing into the kind of malls we have today. A compromise solution was developed - varied goods, merchandizes, wares and services are offered while at the same time amusement for the kids were put in place. To while away the time, the kids are entertained by toys, skating rinks, assorted rides, refreshment parlors, even painting and other educational sessions.

Thence, while shopping malls are sprouting like the proverbial mushroom nowadays, it's never became easy to keep a kid entertained, even with the many offerings of amusements parlors inside the malls. But in this age of computers, internet, and the ubiquitous cell phones, games and amusement for children that require thinking and the imagination are the best to give them. As, they enjoy they can also be challenged at the same time.

It's no surprise then as this is a marketing ploy, when shopping malls continue to introduce newer and better attractions that keep the interest of kids to discover other things.
