Cebu Pacific Air's Safety Vid hits it big on the Web feat. DANCING FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

Chalk one up for Filipino creativity, as the Philippine's premier budget airline, Cebu Pacific, has gained worldwide fame because of its Lady Gaga- and Katy Perry-inspired safety video. As of this writing, the 4-day-old YouTube video uploaded by user wingco1129 has racked up 4,513,103 hits!

The video, which features Cebu Pacific's flight attendants dancing to Lady Gaga's Just Dance and Katy Perry's California Gurls, has been reposted in major online publications worldwide such as Gizmodo, Telegraph, NYMag's Vulture, and our very own Both foreigners and Filipinos abroad laud the effort, with some saying that Cebu Pac's gimmick could very well up the ante for other budget carriers around the world.

In an interview with Spot, Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific's vice-president for marketing, said that "Cebu Pacific has always been known as the fun airline, and this is just another way to bring out our culture as an airline. Being the largest airline can still be fun especially as we showcase homegrown talent, too."

We hear ya loud and clear, Candice. Kudos on your airline's newfound fame. Here's to hoping that international news about the Philippines sound more like this, rather than more like this.

Oh, and just to clear the air (pun intended), the safety vid was done at cruising altitude and did not replace the serious safety demo usually done during flights. We wouldn't be surprised, though, if they finally get rid of the old routine. Airport security is already boring enough.
