We saw PERCY JACKSON & THE LIGHTNING THIEF in Cinema 5 at SM MALL OF ASIA, Feb. 28, 2010. The film is a Harry Potter wannabe and it works in magical ways. Young Demigods (or Half-Bloods..see the Harry Potter connection?) in training while Percy Jackson, son of the sea king, has a mission to seek his mother from the underworld. Empire State Building in New York city as the portal to Mount Olympus is a bit gaudy as an indirect way to promote the landmarks of the U.S. to the world as London in the Harry Potter films. Three friends camaraderie is another rip-off from the Harry Potter films as main characters. Chris Columbus directed Percy Jackson who also directed Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, another HP connection. Overall the film has magical visuals and made to good use the greek mythologies. My ratings: 4 out of 5 Biscuits!
I just finished watching THE ROAD (2009). Touching film, not much action here, just a father and a son trying to survive the post-apocalyptic era. My ratings: 4.5 out of 5 Biscuits. Movie stars Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn of LOTR) and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Viggo visibly shed off some pounds in this film to play a believable starving survivor of the post-apocalyptic holocaust. Wonderful acting by Viggo and Kodi. The film based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. Highly recommended film for all.
